UAE Geography
The United Arab Emirates is located in the middle of the Arabian Gulf , north of the equator, between latitudes 22 , 26.30, and longitudes 51 , 56.30 east of Greenwich mean time (GMT). It is bordered from the North by the Arabian Gulf, and from the West by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from the South by the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and from the East by the Gulf of Oman . The strategic geographical location of U.A.E to the east of the Arab world is very important for the security and stability of this vital part of the Arab world.
The total area of the country is 83600 Sq.km. This includes an archipelago with an area about 5900 Sq.km. The total population in 1995 is (2411041) persons*. The city of Abu Dhabi is the Capital of the State.
The United Arab Emirates is composed of seven emirates : Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Qiwain, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujeirah.

ABU DHABI

It is situated along the Arabian Gulf, between latitudes 22.5 , 25 North, and longitudes 51 , 55 East. It is the biggest of all seven emirates. with an area of 87340 Sq.km , which is equivalent to 86.7 % of the country's total area, excluding the islands.
The city of Abu Dhabi is the capital of the Emirate . The population of the emirate is ( 942463) persons in 1995.

DUBAI

It stretches along the coast of Arabian Gulf, over a distance of about 72 km. The area of Dubai Emirate is about 3885 Sq.km , which is equivalent to 5% of the country's total area, excluding the islands. The emirate's population is (689420) persons 1 in 1995.
Jabel Ali area, is considered one of the most significant industrial and commercial areas in the whole country. It has the biggest free trade zone in the whole Gulf. It comprises the Dry-Dock, Jabel Ali Port and Dubai Aluminium Factory.
The most important tourism land marks in Dubai are Hatta district, Al-Aweer district and Al-Khawaneej.

SHARJAH

The Emirate of Sharjah is located along the coast of the Arabian Gulf extending over a distance of approximately 16 km long, and extending into the interior for a distance exceeding 80 km . The three parts of Sharjah lying on the Gulf of Oman are : Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Dibba El-Husn. The Emirate has an area of 2590 Sq.km, which is equivalent to 3.3% of the country's total area, excluding the islands. The population of the emirate is (402792) persons* in 1995.
Sharjah Emirate also encompasses some oasis , that are scattered to the interior, the most known of which is Dhayd area with very rich and fertile soil , which produces large quantities of vegetables and agricultural products. On the eastern region along the Gulf of Oman there is the city of Khor Fakkan, having the main port for the eastern region. The other two islands , that belong to sharjah Emirate , are Abu Mousa and Sayeer Bou Naa'eer.

AJMAN

The Emirate of Ajman is situated on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, extending over a distance of about 16 km long, between the emirates of Umm Al-Qiwain and Sharjah. The area of the emirate is about 259 Sq.km, which is equivalent to 0.3% of the country's total area, excluding the islands. The emirate's population is (121491) persons* in 1995.
The two major areas in the emirate are Masfout , which is an agricultural area located 110 km to the south east of the emirate, and Manama area located 60 km to the East.

UMM AL-QIWAIN

The Emirate of Umm Al-Qiwain is located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, stretching over a distance of 24 km long, between Sharjah to the West, and Ras Al-Khaimah to the East. Its land spreads towards the interior for a distance of 32 km approximately.
The total area of the emirate is about 777 Sq.km, which is equivalent to 1% of the country's total area, excluding the islands. The emirate's population is (35361) persons* in 1995.
The area of Falaj Al-Mualla is located 50 km south east of Umm Al-Qiwain city. The Seneyah island, located one kilometer away from Umm Al-Qiwain city with a total area of 90 Sq.km , is known to harbour different species of sea birds, deers and AL-Qaram trees.

RAS AL-KHAIMAH

The Emirate of Ras Al-Khimah is located on the farthest eastern borders of the Arab world, on the Arabian Gulf. It stretches for a distance of about 64 km long. It extends towards the interior for a distance exceeding 128 km long. It has an extremely mountainous borderline with the Sultanate of Oman to the South and North east. A number of islands in the Gulf's water belong to the emirate, the most well known of which are the Bigger Tunb and Lesser Tunb. The area of the emirate is 168 Sq. km, which is equivalent to 2.2 % of the country's total area, excluding islands. The emirate's population is (143334) persons in 1995.
An important part of the emirate, is Khour Khuwayr industrial area, that lies about 25 km to the north of Ras Al-Khaimah. It comprises various industrial ventures like cement, gravel and marble. It includes also the main export port ( Saqr Port ) , and the Remis district whose inhabitants have been working as fishermen for quite so long . There is also the Digdaga district , that is famous for its agricultural projects and houses the biggest pharmaceutical factory in the whole Gulf known as " Gulphar " . Other important districts are Al-Hamraniah, which is an agricultural area, containing Ras Al-Khaimah International Airport, Khaat area , a tourist - resort , that is well renowned for its thermal springs and visited by tourists for treatment, and Masafi district , that is well known for its orchards and natural potable water.

FUJEIRAH

The Emirate of Fujeirah is the only emirate situated along the Gulf of Oman, away from Hurmouz Strait. Its coasts extend along the Gulf of Oman over a distance 90 km long. This location gives the emirate a very special stratagic importance. The area of the emirate is 1165 Sq.km , which is equivalent to 1.5% of the country's total area , excluding islands. The emirate's population is (76180) persons 3 in 1995 .
The physical features of the emirate are characterized by a chain of rough mountains, containing in between them and the Gulf of Oman, the eastern coastal plain, which is a very fertile. The emirate has also been gifted by spectacular tourist sites that include extended coastal beaches, high series of mountains connected in various locations to the beach, natural valleys and the "Aflajs" with its fascinating scenes and mineral water for treatment. Other important areas include Dibba Al-Fujeirah, which comprises the most important agricultural and livestock projects. It is also well known for fishing.
